Sterling is a Supervising Licensed Independent Social Worker by the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health from The Ohio State University, where she became passionate about understanding the contexts and lived experiences that shape people’s health. Sterling wanted to pursue a path where she could work more closely with individuals to improve their health and wellbeing, rather than studying it from afar. This lead to a Master of Social Work degree and career as a mental health therapist.
Sterling views the therapeutic relationship as imperative, and takes her role in creating a safe and supportive environment very seriously. She recognizes that personal growth and healing can be challenging, and is prepared to witness and be with her clients through their journeys. Her intention is for each and every one of her clients to feel heard, seen, and understood.
Multiple evidence-based psychotherapies and healing practices make up Sterling’s therapeutic approach. She is a Certified EMDR Therapist and Approved Consultant by the EMDR International Association. Expressive Arts Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, Somatic Psychology, and other holistic pathways to healing are also integrated. This is a trauma-focused approach to psychotherapy, which is built upon the understanding that our past experiences inform our current functioning.
Sterling enjoys working with individuals experiencing a variety of mental health concerns including PTSD/trauma, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, general stress, life transitions, and relationship issues. Her primary area of specialization is Complex PTSD, attachment trauma, and relational trauma across the lifespan.
